The Barrel dress is an original and roomy design with a midi length and a barrel-shaped skirt, which is fun yet very flattering. It can be sewn with lantern sleeves that emphasize the shape of the skirt, or sleeveless. The sleeveless version is a beautiful addition to your summer dress collection.
The dress features a rounded neckline and a keyhole opening at the back, secured with a button and loop. Bias binding can be used along the neckline and armholes or at the sleeve hems. Of course, there are pockets in the side seams because everyone – not just men – needs pockets.
To get even more out of the pattern packet, you can use the lower part of the pattern to sew a skirt on its own. Instructions for this variation can be found on The Assembly Line website. The top is also very beautiful on its own, and by slightly lengthening the upper part, you can create an independent top pattern. This way, you can get up to four different patterns from this single pattern packet.
